Family displaced when fire erupts in the garage of their Buena Park home

BUENA PARK A family was displaced Wednesday morning as fire erupted in their garage in the 5800 block of Los Angeles Way, authorities said.

The blaze was reported around 3:30 a.m. Twenty-three firefighters contained the flames to the garage, said Capt. Larry Kurtz of the Orange County Fire Authority.

The fire was out in 15 minutes, but not before the home suffered smoke damage making the home uninhabitable.

Unfortunately, smoke got into to the attic spaces and walls and every surface of the home, Kurtz said. That smoke contains dangerous carcinogens and needs to be cleaned away before its safe for people to live there.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
